GMA Network was founded by Robert La Rue Stewart in 1950 as Republic BroadcastingSystem, with DZBB as its flagship AM radio station. The company ventured into televisionindustry in 1961, and broadcasted on Channel 7 in the Greater Manila Area.Felipe L. Gozon, Menardo R. Jimenez, and Gilberto M. Duavit took over the company in1974, which was eventually renamed to its present form in 1996. Ownership to thecompany's shares was opened to the public through its listing in the Philippine StockExchange in 2007.
